History[]

Princess Aurora is the protagonist of Disney's 1959 animated feature film, Sleeping Beauty, Aurora is the only child of King Stefan and Queen Leah, on the day she was christened, the event was interrupted by Maleficent who placed a curse on the young infant stating that she would die but due to the intervention of Merryweather's gift to the princess, the curse was altered so that Aurora would be drawn into a deep sleep that could only be broken by true love's kiss.

She later makes a brief cameo in Descendants alongside her husband during Ben's coronation. She is one of the many heroes of Auradon and the mother of Audrey.

Life before Auradon[]

Princess Aurora was born to King Stefan and Queen Leah and was considered a great joy to the rulers as for many years, they wished for a child. She was called Aurora due to the fact that she filled her parent's hearts with sunshine and joy as well as the dawn.

During her christening, a feast was held by her parents that was attended by young Prince Phillip and his father, King Hubert, the latter and his friend, Stefan, agreed that their son and daughter would be betrothed and be married in the future. The feast was also attended by Flora, Fauna and Merryweather but the ceremony was soon halted by Maleficent's arrival who declared she had her own gift for the baby but revealed it was that Aurora would die, the curse was altered by Merryweather who made it so Aurora would not die upon pricking her finger but would instead fall into a deep slumber and would only awaken by true loves kiss.

After the events of the christening, Aurora was taken away by the three fairies who vowed to protect the princess much to the sadness of the King and Queen, the young princess was raised by the fairies posing as her aunts and the princess herself was known under the name of Briar Rose. Growing up, Aurora was raised in a small cottage in a secluded forest and taught not to speak to strangers. On her sixteenth birthday, the fairies attempted to keep the Princess' surprise a secret and sent her outside where she met Prince Philip, during her trip, the forest animals stole Philip's cloak, boots and hat and returned to Aurora pretending to be the Prince, Aurora played along with the idea and began to sing. As she did, the Prince in question grabbed Aurora after the latter had spun around, his arrival shocking Aurora who tried to leave only for Philip to continue singing "Once Upon a Dream". Afterwards, Aurora returned to the cottage. After discovering her presents, she mentioned her encounter with the Prince but her supposed aunts were not happy to learn of the meeting unknown that the man was the prince that the princess was already betrothed to. Soon after, the three told the princess of her royal heritage and explained she was already betrothed. After learning the truth, Aurora then ran to her bed and cried.

That night, Aurora was returned to her parents' castle by the three fairies with the princess now wearing a cloak to disguise her identity until the time was right to reveal her. Wanting to help her realise her lineage, Aurora was placed in another room and given a crown to wear only to fall upset moments later and left alone to grieve. Seeing the now alone princess, Maleficent used this to lure the princess upstairs where she was placed in a trance to prick her finger on the spinning wheel which she did. Aurora then collapsed

After discovering the now sleeping princess, the fairies placed the kingdom under another sleeping spell and Aurora was placed in a tower until the spell was broken. That same night, Aurora was awakened after being kissed by Phillip who fought his way from the dungeon tower he was trapped in and then killed Maleficent, who at the time, was in her dragonic form. As she danced with her husband, Merryweather and Flora continued their previous argument as the two continued to magic the dress from pink to blue multiple times as the prince and princess danced on.

Personality[]

Aurora is a kind, elegant, gently yet shy young woman with a slight naïve attitude due to being sheltered for so many years. She often followed the rules of her "aunts" despite slightly disagreeing with them at times. After meeting her first strange, she appeared startled after coming across Prince Phillip. Despite needing to follow the rule set for her however, Aurora agreed to meet the man again under the supervision of her "aunts" at the cottage,

Despite their being little information on her relationship with Audrey, it is said that she raised her daughter with a perfect childhood and that she loves and cares for her a lot though this seemingly backfired as Audrey came off as vain and mean than her mother.

Appearance[]

She appears behind Audrey and Queen Leah during the coronation of Ben, alongside her husband Phillip. She is also one of the heroes to have an image in the Auradon Cathedral.
